History & Concept

In 2000, a group of home school families met together to discuss the need for classes to enhance their academic experiences. Together they founded what originated as a home school co-op in Johnson County, Kansas. That vision has grown with the desire to offer "cafeteria style" classes where students could take one or all classes from select instructors who uphold what parents are teaching at home, while supplementing their endeavor to home educate.

The vision began to unfold and the ministry expanded. In 2001, the University Model School was discovered through articles in World Magazine and Practical Homeschooling. The founding families discovered that a group of Christian families in Texas had already paved the road for a new type of school to meet their needs. In Texas, a similar group founded the first University Model school in 1992, agreeing to work together to start a new school, that would be developed with the care and attention needed to produce not only a local institution but also an educational model that could be effectively utilized by others also seeking for better ways to educate their children. That decision eventually resulted in the formation of Grace Preparatory Academy, a Christian, University Model School in Arlington, Texas that serves 1st-12th grade students from throughout the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex and its surrounding area.

Leaders within the Johnson County group began to research and study the efforts of Grace Prep to learn from their experiences and utilize the University Model to meet the needs of their families. Christ Preparatory Academy (CPA) was founded in Johnson County, Kansas, in 2002 with that vision in mind.

CPA is a unique private school that utilizes an integrated instructional approach to education in order to produce a higher degree of academic achievement. The school is essentially a concrete expression of a new educational model in which two proven elements of educational success-the professional instruction of a classroom teacher and the on-on-one instruction and/or guidance of each student's parent-are combined in a single unified, college-simulated program. Other proven elements, which are a part of this school's programming, include low student/teacher ratios, hands-on learning, and a strong work ethic for students, effective curriculum, and local school operation and management.
