Wrestling Coach: James Hartley BENEFITS:
Looking for a winter sport? Consider the many benefits of wrestling. It combines the advantage of team work as a dual team member, while allowing a wrestler to rise to victory based upon his own merits or handle defeat with no one to blame but himself. There is a combination of teamwork and individual acclaim in wrestling. If a team is struggling for whatever reason, a wrestler can still experience a successful season and even be a state champion.
Mental toughness is at the heart of wrestling. The wrestler is in sole control of the outcome on the mat. No one else dropped the ball, made a bad pass, missed the block, drew a penalty, or missed the rebound. In a one on one sport such as wrestling the athlete is forced to engage with the opposition 100% of the time. It demands complete focus. Everyone participates. You are paired by weight and age. You do not need to be tall as in basketball, big as in football, or speedy as in track. All shapes and sizes can excel in wrestling, resulting in a positive self-image and healthy self-esteem. Wrestling is a great conditioner. Everyone improves their stamina, strength, agility, speed, coordination, balance, explosiveness, and power. It is a universal conditioner and will enhance the skills for other sports. Those who wrestle and play football will tell you that four quarters of football does not put near the demand on you physically that three, two-minute periods of wrestling will. That is why there is a 45-minute mandatory wait period before a wrestler can get on the mat for the next match. The inherent requirements of wrestling are critical to success in every sport as well as to success in academics and to success in life. And the confidence of possessing self-defense skills..... priceless. 2010-2011 PROGRAM INFORMATION:
