NEW FAMILY INQUIRY:

In order for a student to be accepted into Christ Preparatory Academy, a family must . . .

Register & Attend an Open House event.

Parents are required to attend an on-campus informational meeting about Christ Prep held in February, March and April each year. Parents will receive a packet of admissions materials then.

Complete all required placement testing.

Incoming elementary students take placement tests in math and reading. Students in the ninth grade and above entering Christ Prep for the first time are required to take and pass a grammar entrance test in preparation for the rigors of four years of English study. Students who do not achieve a score of 80 percent or above are required to take a high school grammar course, either concurrently with English I or before enrolling in any other high school grammar course. A review is usually held before the test dates.

Students who do not pass the grammar test at the end of the eighth-grade grammar class are held to the same testing requirement.

Complete Online Sycamore application.

After attending an Open House event, completing a short testing assessment exam, reviewing the school material and praying about your decision,  If you feel Christ Prep is a good fit then you will need to complete the online application process in Sycamore which includes submitting all necessary forms online. Please note that priorities for CPA course enrollment are based on your formal Open House and Testing registration date.

Attend a school admissions family interview.

School admission includes an interview with the admissions committee and/or school principal. The purpose of the meeting is to ensure each family has an opportunity to have all of their questions about Christ Prep answered and to make certain that it is the appropriate school for their children. A representative from CPA will contact prospective families to arrange an interview based on available dates each month as part of our enrollment process. Formal admission decisions are made soon afterward.

Ensure Christ Prep has permission to receive all previously generated academic records.

Only under the most extenuating circumstances will a student be accepted without Christ Prep having received all relevant and required academic and immunization records.

Receive notification of acceptance.

Once the interview process is completed, each family receives an email and or Sycamore notification indicating the approval. If admissions are granted, a second notification is sent at a later time with instructions on accessing the school’s Sycamore Education home page for student schedules and other important information.

Complete an entrance interview with the Academic Advisor.

During this meeting, students in the ninth grade and above and their parents provide documentation of any transfer credits and/or transcripts from previous schooling. Credits that are accepted for transfer from a home-school transcript will be entered on the Christ Prep transcript as a “pass” or “fail” grade. At this meeting, families commit to graduation intentions for their student(s).

CONCEPT

The University-Model school is built on three interconnected concepts: academics, character development, and activities. At Christ Prep, they are worked out within the following framework of partnership between the school and the home:

  • The school takes the lead on academics, with professional teaching staff evaluating and selecting curriculum, providing direct instruction to students three days a week, developing lesson plans and objectives, and determining daily assignments to be completed in school and at home. Parents partner with the school in that process, providing additional instruction or repetition, oversight, and guidance that varies as the student gets older.

  • Parents continue to take the lead in the biblically-mandated requirement to instill into their children the values and character qualities of a Christ-follower. One of the foundational concepts of the University-Model school is to provide parents with additional time to “… train a child up in the way he should go….” Often this time is not as available in a traditional, five-day school model. Christ Prep comes alongside parents who have agreed with the statement of faith and are operating with a similar mindset.

  • The provision of extracurricular activities is truly a joint effort at Christ Prep. While the school offers a wide variety of athletic activities (with varsity-level competition in nine different sports) and a variety of other possibilities, the University-Model schedule offers families the opportunity to choose from myriad activities available in the greater Kansas City area. Christ Prep students have been highly active in numerous drama, music, and athletic organizations in the community.

Within the University-Model schedule, most students are in classes at the school on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, working under the direct supervision of a parent at home on Tuesday and Thursday. The school gives students the opportunity to prepare academically for the post-secondary experience of their choice while, at the same time, develop skills, like time management and independent learning strategies, that will assist them as life-long learners.
